1. Understanding Attune’s Underwriting reviews process
You’re probably used to the traditional underwriting referral process from other carriers—the one that slows you down with back-and-forth and endless waiting.
We took a different approach. Our underwriting review process is designed to substitute that outdated referral system, keeping you in control of your quoting and binding experience. Instead of waiting days, you get instant, actionable feedback.
Key benefits of Attune’s underwriting review system:
- Fewer reviews: We require 25% to 90% fewer submissions than most small business carriers.
-
Get expert help: We’re available to review accounts you want to bind. If you want us to confirm eligibility before proceeding to bind, reach out to your account manager or the Customer Care Team.
- You’re in control: Eligible business can be bound immediately, no need to wait for an underwriter’s approval.
2. Why does an Account trigger an Underwriting review?
Attune built technology to scan all quoted accounts for risk or eligibility flags. If an account triggers one of these indicators, you’ll receive a notification stating the account has entered the underwriting review process.
This means that if the account is bound an underwriter will review it post bind to confirm eligibility.
3. Steps to follow when an account is under Underwriting review
You’re still in control of the next steps. You will not receive any proactive communication from Attune prior to binding a policy.
Please do the following:
- Carefully review the Eligibility Guidelines for the business class.
- Ensure that the account is accurately classified.
- If everything aligns with our guidelines, you may proceed to bind.
- If you are unsure, confirm with your Account Manager or with an Attune's Customer Care Agent before binding to avoid post-bind issues.

4. Does this mean my account is ineligible?
Not necessarily. About 20% of accounts that trigger underwriting alerts are ineligible.
5. Can I still bind the account? How to proceed with binding after an underwriting review alert?
Yes, you may still bind the policy if:
- The account meets all eligibility requirements.
- The classification information is accurate.
We suggest you take a moment to ensure the account is classified accurately, and closely review the guidelines to confirm that the account meets all eligibility criteria.
Every bound policy is reviewed post-bind by Attune’s Underwriting team. If the review determines the policy is ineligible, it may be canceled, or you may be asked to provide additional documentation to confirm eligibility.
6. How Attune handles Post-bind Underwriting Audits?
If a policy is selected for an underwriting audit, a member from our Underwriting Team will contact the Broker on file via email to request supporting documentation.
Please reply within 10 business days by submitting the requested information in the original email thread with the underwriter, to avoid cancellation.
To ensure seamless communication, the broker on file should always keep their contact information updated in the insured’s account. This prevents missed notices and delays.
7. What happens if you miss the audit response deadline?
If no response is received within the 10-day period, a Notice of cancellation (NOC) will be issued for failure to comply .
The effective date of the cancellation depends on the state’s regulations (typically 30 days, but some states allow 10 or 60 days. )
If the broker responds before the cancellation takes effect and the response is deemed satisfactory, the NOC can be rescinded, and the policy will remain active. However, if Attune does not receive the response on time and the policy is canceled, the broker on file may still request a review within 30 days after the cancellation to determine whether it qualifies for reinstatement.
