Underwriting Review FAQ

What are Underwriting Reviews?

Attune has taken a different approach to underwriting reviews than many other carriers. We created underwriting reviews as a substitute for the referral process you may be familiar with from other carriers.

The key benefits of the underwriting alerts process are:

  • Fewer reviews. We require an underwriting review on anywhere from 25 to 90% fewer submissions than other small business carriers.
  • We’re here for you. We’re available to review accounts you want to bind. If you want us to confirm eligibility before proceeding to bind, reach out to your account manager with the account name and quote number.
  • You’re in control. As always, you may bind eligible business yourself, so you can move at your speed. If the business is eligible, you don’t have to wait for an underwriter to get back to you in order to bind.

What does the underwriting review on my account mean?

Attune built technology to scan all quoted accounts for criteria that indicate a business may not be eligible for an Attune policy. The below notification means that the account has triggered one of our scans.

This means that if bound, an underwriter will review the policy post-bind in order to confirm eligibility.

What happens next if I have an underwriting review on my account?

You’re still in control of the next steps. You will not receive any proactive communication from Attune prior to binding a policy.

You should closely review the guidelines for the account, and ensure that it’s classified accurately. If the account complies with all guidelines, and is classified correctly, you can proceed to bind the account. If you’re unsure whether an account complies with the guidelines, please confirm prior to binding.

You’re always welcome to reach out to your Account Manager if you’d like to confirm eligibility prior to binding to avoid any post-bind issues.

Does this mean my account is ineligible?

About 20% of accounts that trigger underwriting alerts are ineligible. We suggest you take a moment to ensure the account is classified accurately, and closely review the guidelines to confirm that the account confirms with all eligibility criteria.

Can I still bind the account?

Yes. If you review the guidelines and confirm eligibility and appropriate classification, you can bind. All binds are reviewed by our Underwriting Team, and if the account is not eligible for the program, it will be canceled. You may be asked to provide additional information to confirm eligibility.

Can you help me with this?

You’re always welcome to reach out to your Account Manager if you’d like to confirm eligibility prior to binding to avoid any post-bind issues.
